Being an expatriate can be a highly dualistic experience. On the one hand, living abroad can provide us with novelty, excitement, and the thrill of being in a new place filled with new customs. On the other, it can leave us feeling isolated, homesick, and uncertain of our identity.
The goal of the expat process group is to provide a forum for expats from all over the world to share their experiences of living abroad—the good, the bad, and everything in between.
There are many benefits to sharing in a group setting. The catharsis we feel from speaking about things, which perhaps we’ve felt uncomfortable to share with those closest to us, can provide incredible relief.
The connections we make with those in the group can provide new friends and helps us transcend feelings of isolation.
Receiving empathy and altruism from strangers also has the unique ability to instill a sense of hope and confidence in us–especially when we’ve had negative experiences in our new environment.
Each group will begin and end with a brief guided meditation for grounding, centering and relaxation. After the meditation, we can begin the discussion, which I will facilitate and guide.
If you’re an expat living in Zürich who’s having a difficult transition I encourage you to join us to talk, reflect, and meditate.
Please note that group space is limited and can only accommodate 8 group members.
If you do not RSVP to the group I regret that I cannot guarantee you a spot.
The suggested contribution for the event is 30 CHF or you can pay what you can at the door.
